Last week, “legitimized” by a vote of the United Nations Security Council (Russia and China abstained) and the Arab League, Barack Obama directed the US military to take out Libyan air power in the establishment of a “no fly” zone.  The rational for this action was to protect innocent Libyan civilians from being slaughtered by their dictator leader, Muammar al-Qaddafi.

Not surprisingly, the Arab League has already backed down in their support of the effort.  Amr Moussa, secretary general of the Arab League has condemned the air assault saying:  “What is happening in Libya differs from the aim of imposing a no-fly zone. And what we want is the protection of civilians and not the shelling of more civilians.”

The spineless response of the Arab League could have been predicted.  The fact that the US will be vilified for virtually everything that has or will go wrong in Libya is a foregone conclusion.  Finally, the premise for getting involved in Libya (a dictator was killing his own people) is sadly flawed.

Now Obama and the United Nations, his “government” of choice, can apparently lead the US into any country where dictators kill their citizens.  For thousands of years, dictators the world over have routinely killed their own people; Qaddafi is just one of many.  Millions of people are born every year into families that live in countries where they are destined to live lives of poverty and repression at the hand of dictators.  It is not the job of the American people to finance military efforts and spill the blood of their sons and daughters because the world is a nasty place.

It is my suspicion that Barack Obama so wants to legitimize the United Nations and “world government” that he has taken this action in Libya to marginalize the United States as but one player in a world “coalition of the progressives.”  Never mind that the United States has to do all of the heavy lifting and end up being blamed for the conflict.  When Bush went into Iraq he was blamed by the Arab world for his “unjust” war.  Barack Obama will also be blamed by the same Muslims for his killing of innocent civilians in Libya.  The guise of cooperation with the UN will not make one hoot of difference to a guy who is picking his dead kid off the street in Libya.

Stupid is as stupid does.  Barack Obama is an unprepared, naive President.  He’s no leader.  Libya is just one more reason to undo the mistake we made in November, 2008.
